Crime: Brown sugar worth Rs 1.20 cr seized in Odisha; 2 arrested

BHUBANESWAR: During a raid in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha crime branch's special task force (STF) confiscated over 1 kg brown sugar worth Rs 1.20 crore and arrested two people involved in the illegal trade, police said on Saturday.

A team of the STF raided the Baramunda area of Bhubaneswar on Friday evening, acting on a tip, and recovered the narcotic narcotics as well as Rs 17,000 cash from the two drug peddlers.

The suspects, named as West Bengal resident Kapildev Majumdar and Khurda district resident Rasmiranjan Bhol, have been apprehended and taken to court, according to the task force officials.

During the operation, police seized one fake identity card as a doctor of gynaecology from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, a xerox copy of pictures in police uniform, a fake ID card as GM Swastika Event Ltd, one motorcycle, and two laptops from accused Rasmiranjan Bhol's possession.

According to STF officers, the duo was engaged in unlawful trade while posing as a doctor and a police officer.  The police have filed a report under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
