The Delhi High Court has adjourned the hearing on WhatsApp and Facebook's plea till August 27. The policy was recently implemented by the Central Government IT. WhatsApp had recently moved the Delhi High Court challenging it against the Central Government. According to the policy, it will need a "trace" to detect the origin of special messages sent on these two platforms.

In fact, Facebook-owned WhatsApp has challenged the government's new social media policy in the Delhi High Court, requiring the message service to find out who launched a message. The company said the company's "monitoring" rules on chats are in violation of privacy rights and are "unconstitutional."
They also said that the need to keep an eye on chat for a messaging app is like asking them to keep a fingerprint of every message sent on WhatsApp. It will break end-to-end encryption and undermine users' right to privacy. Through the new IT (Guidelines for Intermediate Institutions and Digital Media Code of Conduct) Rules, 2021, an exercise is underway to make social media companies more accountable and responsible. The new IT rules are in effect from Wednesday, May 26, and were announced on February 25.
