Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified action in connection with the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam (SSC scam). In this case, now another Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Manik Bhattacharya has been arrested by the ED. Earlier, minister Partha Chatterjee was also arrested and crores of rupees were recovered from his premises. Manik Bhattacharya was the chairman of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education. In June this year, he was removed from the post on the orders of the Kolkata High Court. He was accused of being involved in this scam, after which the matter reached the High Court and these orders were given there. Manik Bhattacharya is the second TMC MLA to be arrested by the ED in the case. Partha Chatterjee was earlier arrested in July. He was among the senior leaders of TMC, but after being surrounded, Mamata Banerjee removed him from the party and as a minister. The ED had recovered over Rs 50 crore in cash from two flats of Partha Chatterjee's close aide Arpita Mukherjee. The Calcutta High Court had ordered that Manik Bhattacharya appear before the CBI. Against this, he moved to the Supreme Court, from where he got relief. The Supreme Court had ordered the agency not to take any action till any further decision.
