Maharashtra Leader Raj Thackeray Summoned Over Probe Into IL&FS Crisis

Mumbai: In the ILFS scam case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. Apart from Thackeray, Unmesh Joshi, son of former Maharashtra CM Manohar Joshi, has also been summoned. The summons is scheduled to appear before the ED on Monday 19 August. On reaching the ED office, Umesh Joshi is likely to be questioned today.

It may be mentioned that son of Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi, Umesh Joshi and two other colleagues had formed a consortium. The IL&FS group also invested Rs 225 crore. Then, in 2008, it suffered a huge loss and surrendered its shares for just Rs 90 crore. Even after surrendering its share, the il&fs group granted advance loan to Kohinoor CityNL, which allegedly built Kohinoor Square Towers, which Kohinoor CityNL could not repay.

Then, in 2011, the Kohinoor CityNL Company signed an agreement to repay a loan of Rs 500 crore by selling some of its assets. Following the deal, IL&FS has found another loan of Rs 135 crore to Kohinoor CityNL, ED, in its investigation. Edi Kohinoor has already recorded the statement of a top CTNL official in the case.
