Ranchi: Coal industry pensioners demonstrated in front of the CMPFO gate on Monday in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. They said that they are getting a pension of Rs 49 per month. In this, even one day's ration is not available, how to survive for the whole month. A 5-point demand was made in the demonstration organized under the banner of Coal Pensioners Association. The pensioners have said that the pension received by them has not been increased for years. Coal industry pensioners told that the Indian government is cruel to us. Been demanding an increase in pension for the last 24 years. But our demands are being ignored. Those living below the poverty line in the country are getting government assistance. Widow pension and old age pension also a minimum of 1000 rupees. But out of one lakh twenty six thousand coal industry pensioners, pensioners ranging from Rs 49 to Rs 1,000 per month are being given to those who have retired earlier. Ram Anuj Prasad, President of the Pensioners Association, said, ''The pension of the people living in the poverty line in the country has also been increased. But, there is no respect for its retired employees in BCCL. We are in constant movement. India is the only country in the world where the elderly also have to agitate for their rights. If the government does not accept our demands, then there will be a fierce agitation.'' This demand of pensioners has got the support of former MLA of Nirsa, Arun Chatterjee. He said that their pension should be increased by the government. I appeal to the Ministry of Coal to increase the pension.
