SANTANDER: At the World Junior Mixed Team Badminton Championships 2022, Group B match on Tuesday, the Indian team came back from being down a match to beat Australia 3-2. Ricky Tang and Otto Xing de Zhao beat Arsh Mohammad and Abhinav Thakur in the first match of the tie. The score was 12-21, 17-21. Then, India tied it up when 14-year-old Unnati Hooda beat Sydney Go in the women's singles with a comfortable 21-6, 21-9 win. Hooda is ranked as the No. 5 junior player in the world. Jack Yu beat India's Bharat Raghav in the third match of the day, which was the men's singles match. The score was 19-21, 21-16, 15-21. But India tied it up again when Isharani Baruah and Devika Sihag beat Dania Nugroho and Catrina Chia-Yu Tan in the women's doubles 21-8, 21-8. In the fifth and final match of the day, the mixed doubles team of Vignesh Thathineni and Srinidhi Naryanan beat Otto Xing de Zhao and Yuelin Zhang by scores of 21-12 and 21-16. This helped India win the tournament. With two points from three ties, the Indian team is now in second place in Group B. The team beat Iceland 5-0 and then lost to China by the same score on the first day. India must now beat Slovenia in their last group match on Wednesday and hope that China loses to either Iceland or Australia if they want to make it to the quarterfinals of the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships.
