HOBART: Mark Watt, a left-arm spinner for Scotland, criticised the International Cricket Council (ICC) for only giving it two T20I games in the year leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup. He said, "Two T20s in a year is pretty hard to figure."

Even though there were almost no competitive matches, Scotland beat two-time T20 World Cup champions West Indies by 42 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup First Round Group B match on Monday. West Indies players play in lucrative leagues around the world all year long, so Cricket West Indies (CWI) had to apologise to its fans around the world for the lacklustre show.

Watt said, "Yeah, definitely. You know, we were desperate to play more cricket throughout the year. It's no lie. Two T20s over a whole year is pretty hard to factor in when you're preparing for a World Cup against the best teams in the world." Scotland's second Group B match against Ireland is on Wednesday at the same venue.

"We try to do that, and we can't wait for more cricket." But right now, we have to take what we can get and try to save our best cricket for these events." Before the T20 World Cup, Scotland played a two-match T20I series at home against New Zealand in July, when the Kiwis were on their European tour. That and the one-off ODI against New Zealand were the only competitive matches Scotland played in the past year.

Watt said that he wants to play for England if Scotland makes it to the Super 12.

"Oh. I'd love to play against England.' He said that beating West Indies, who had won the T20 world championship twice, was a great feeling.

"Yeah, unbelievable feeling. I don't think it's hit her yet. I just saw the messages from home, and seeing how proud everyone is and having my family there, it's starting to sink in a little bit. The guys are just buzzing, but we know it's only the first game. We need to keep our cool right now, and there's still a long way to go in this competition."
