India effectively test-fires new version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile off Odisha coast

New Delhi: India successfully test-fired a new version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile off the coast of Odisha in Balasore on Thursday,  defence sources said. The missile was equipped with new technological improvements that had been successfully proven, according to Defense sources.

The BrahMos Supersonic Cruise missile was successfully test-fired by the Indian Navy's INS Visakhapatnam cruiser on January 11.

"From INS Visakhapatnam, an advanced sea-to-sea variant of the BrahMos Supersonic Cruise missile was tested today. The missile precisely hit the intended target ship "According to a DRDO officer.  The missile is a cooperative venture between India and Russia, with the Indian side represented by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The missile was fired from the INS Vizag, the Indian Navy's newest vessel, which was just enlisted.

BrahMos is the primary weapon system used by Indian Navy warships and is found on nearly all of their surface platforms. An underwater version is also being created, which will be utilised not only by Indian submarines but also exported to friendly other nations.
