Journalist Ravish Kumar wins Ramon Magsaysay Award, After 12 years an Indian received the award

New Delhi: The Ramon Magsaysay Awards which is also regarded as the Asian version of the Nobel Prize have been announced. Among the 5 people who won the Magsaysay Award 2019 include the name of Indian journalist Ravish Kumar. He has been given the award for his commendable contribution in Hindi TV journalism. Ravish Kumar is the 11th Indian journalist to receive the award.

The award is given to the people and institutions of Asia for their commendable work done in their respective fields. Remarkably, the award is given in memory of former Philippines President Ramon Magsaysay. Apart from Ravish Kumar, The four other winners of the 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award are Ko Swe Win from Myanmar, Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab from Philippines and Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea.

After a long gap of 12 years, an Indian journalist has received this award. Prior to Ravish, in 2007, P Sainath was awarded the Magsaysay Award for his good performance in the field of journalism.
