Indian Railway restores its catering services in premium trains

New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) have decided to provide freshly prepared food in the Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, and Gatiman Express trains, which is a big step toward the restoration of passenger services. An order has already been issued to all pertinent departments and stakeholders in this regard.

Zonal Railways will verify the catering charges to be incurred based on the services provided and the applicable rate list, and feed the information into the PRS software to enable booking/opting out of catering services beginning with the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) date at the time of ticket purchase.

IRCTC shall notify the concerned Zonal Railway of the precise date on which onboard catering services with prepared meals would be reinstated in a specific train for routes covered by the ARP. It also stated that upon receiving such notification, Zonal Railways will make available the option of booking a meal or opting out of catering services for travel dates beginning with the introduction of catering service in PRS software.

It instructed IRCTC to notify e-ticket passengers who had previously booked tickets in advance about the resumption of cooked food supply via SMS and e-mail. IRCTC will also provide a facility on its website for those who have already purchased tickets to choose catering services and pay the amounts owing in advance. Passengers using both e-tickets and counter-tickets will be able to use this service.
