TEHRAN: A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared that Iran is ready to begin discussions with Saudi Arabia to resolve issues. "We are prepared to continue discussions and work out our disagreements. We have communicated our viewpoints to the Saudi side in written, and they should do the same "In his weekly press briefing on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh stated. He reiterated Iran's support for a Yemen ceasefire, saying it "should be concluded with the start of intra-Yemeni discussion, and we should wait for the results." As per Xinhua news, Khatibzadeh expressed hope on Saturday that the UN-backed two-month ceasefire in Yemen can be a forerunner to fully removing the siege on the Yemeni people and establishing a permanent ceasefire to find a political solution to the situation. Yemen has been engulfed in civil war since late 2014, when the Iran-backed Houthi militia took control of several northern provinces and drove President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's Saudi-backed administration out of the capital Sanaa. According to the United Nations, the war has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced 4 million people, and brought the country dangerously close to hunger.
