JERUSALEM – The Israeli Cabinet has accepted the appointment of Gaby Portnoy, a former general, as the head of the National Cyber Directorate. According to the Israel media reports, the Ministers voted in favour of the nomination, according to a statement released by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's office. Bennett hand-picked Portnoy, a 52-year-old former brigadier general in the Israel Defense Forces, as the chief of cybersecurity. He is presently the chief operating officer of EnVizon Medical, an Israeli high-tech corporation. Yigal Unna, who stepped down in January, will be replaced by Portnoy. The National Cyber Directorate is the key body in charge of defending and strengthening Israel's cyberspace. By dealing with countless daily cyber-attacks and preparing for emergencies, the directorate seeks to improve the protection of Israeli residents and organisations.
