Kerala: 3 killed in accident on way to Sabarimala

Kozhikode : Three Sabarimala pilgrims were killed and 12 others were injured near an accident in Kozhikode on Tuesday  The three were killed in the early hours of Tuesday when their tempo traveller crashed with a tipper lorry at Purakkattiri on the Malaparamba-Vengalam bypass road.

The deceased have been identified as Sivanna and Nagaraja, both from Karnataka, and the tempo traveller's driver, an Ernakulam resident. Three of the injured victims are said to be in critical condition. The injured were taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for treatment. The rescue mission was conducted out by police and locals.

According to a senior officer with the Elathur Police Station, preliminary investigations show that the driver of the tempo traveller in which the pilgrims were travelling fell asleep and the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with the truck.

According to the officer, the driver and two other people in their thirties died, while nine others were hurt, some of them critically. He said that the incident occurred around 5.00 a.m. and that the pilgrims were from Karnataka and were on their way to Sabarimala.
