Landslide in Myanmar, 13 people died

Yangon: At least 13 people have been reported killed in a massive landslide in Myanmar's northern Kachin state on Sunday. A local official said that a mine of jade (a kind of stone) was hit by a landslide in Hapakant township of Myanmar's northern Kachin state.

The news agency Xinhua quoted an official of the township's general administration department as saying that the horrific incident occurred when a rock wall collapsed in a mine near Kayin Chung village in Hapakant around 2 p.m. local time, in which the company's employees and security personnel were killed. Lost.

The department official said that 13 bodies have been recovered so far and search is on for five persons. Rescuers managed to rescue two security forces who were later admitted to hospital. Police are currently searching for the missing persons.
