Dehradun: The demand for green bonus was raised loudly at the Himalayan state conference held at Mussoorie in Uttarakhand. All the Himalayan states have also expected the Centre's assistance from the Modi government by setting up a separate ministry for the development of the Himalayan states. Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also listened to the Himalayan states seriously and assured that the Centre will provide full support for the development of these hilly states.

In Mussoorie, Chief Minister of the Himalayan regions and his representatives came for the first ever Chief Minister's Conference. All the Himalayan states were unanimous that they had to prominently place the demand for green bonus before the Central Government.  All the territories had made a lot of preparations with their respective officials. The Himalayan region has sought a special package from the Central Government to make various plans for the Ministry of Hydropower and protect the environment to strengthen its disaster management mechanism.

The green bonus has been talked about many times in the last 10 years, but the first governments at the Centre gave only 2% of the state budget to the green bonus states.  But gradually the figure rose to 7.5%. Now the Himalayan provinces have demanded an increase of 15 per cent. Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said, "We have placed many mountain issues, including disaster management, water management, before the Union Finance Minister.
