NEW DELHI: Amidst the clamorous uproar of the Congress-led Opposition seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence and response in the House regarding the Manipur situation, the Lok Sabha's proceedings were adjourned till 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Speaker Om Birla, faced with protesting opposition members, stood firm, urging them to uphold the dignity of the House. They filled the well of the Lok Sabha, shouting slogans and displaying placards, creating a vivid display of dissent. Inquisitively, Birla questioned whether these members were genuinely interested in the smooth functioning of the House or engaging in the scheduled Question Hour. Notwithstanding the status of India as the world's largest democracy, protests of this nature were deemed unsuitable by the Speaker. Despite his efforts to restore order, the protests persisted, leading Birla to adjourn the House till 2 p.m. Notably, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was present in the Lok Sabha during these eventful proceedings. On the other side, the treasury benches appeared thinly occupied, with the BJP parliamentary party meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Modi, currently underway. While the Opposition relentlessly sought Modi's response in the Lok Sabha regarding Manipur, the Centre stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would address the matter in the House. A day earlier, Shah had called on the protesting Opposition to allow for a discussion on Manipur, emphasizing the significance of the issue and the nation's need to understand the complexities of the sensitive situation.
