NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party is set to organize nationwide protests on Tuesday, addressing the critical situation in Manipur, as stated by party officials. In Delhi, the protest will take place at Jantar Mantar and will be attended by top party leaders. Simultaneously, leaders from various opposition parties demonstrated in the Parliament complex yesterday, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a statement regarding the Manipur issue during the House proceedings.

Since the outbreak of ethnic violence in Manipur on May 3, over 160 people have lost their lives, and numerous others have sustained injuries. The violence erupted during a ''Tribal Solidarity March'' organized in the hill districts to protest the demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status by the Meitei community. The situation escalated last week with the emergence of a distressing video, allegedly shot on May 4, showing two women from one of the warring communities being paraded naked by a group of men from the opposing side.

Manipur's population consists of approximately 53 percent Meiteis, predominantly residing in the Imphal valley, while the tribals, including Nagas and Kukis, account for 40 percent and are mainly concentrated in the hill districts.
