Maharashtra: 12,711-gram panchayats in 34 districts of Maharashtra were polled last Friday with the results coming today. According to reports, all arrangements have also been made by the administration for counting of votes. At present, stringent security arrangements have also been made. The counting of votes has begun at 9:30 am this morning. It is reported that the results may come up at 2 pm today. 79% polling has been recorded last Friday for the election of 12,711-gram panchayats in 34 districts of Maharashtra. A statement has also been issued by the election commissioner. "Polling was held on Friday for 12,711-gram panchayats," the statement said. Counting of votes in Gadchiroli will be held on 22nd January. Counting of votes in the remaining districts will be held today. The election of 14,234-gram panchayats was announced on December 11 last year but uncontested candidates were elected in some local bodies. Polling was held for 1, 25709 seats last Friday. Polling was held from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm. Polling in four talukas of Gadchiroli and Gongiven ended at 3 pm. In the meantime, the State Election Commission (SEC) had received a complaint of disturbances in the election process. After receiving the complaint, it was announced on Wednesday to cancel the election process of Ummane and Khodmal gram panchayats in Nasik and Nandurbar districts respectively. The SEC allowed patients infected with coronavirus and patients living in isolated habitat to use voting rights half an hour before the end of voting.
