New Delhi: The central government is going to ban six plastic items across the country from October 2nd. These items include plastic bags, cups, straws, plates, small bottles, and special bags. According to NDTV, a government official informed that the ban will be imposed on the manufacture and use of banned items as well as their imports. The central government is making efforts to discontinue single-use plastic products. PM Narendra Modi himself is leading it. In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi urged people and government agencies to take major steps to rid of single-use plastics. The government aims to completely destroy such plastics by 2022. According to information, a government official has reported that India consumes 1.40 million tonnes of plastic a year. This will reduce the ban on these six items from five to ten percent. Other officials said that after the first six months of the ban, those using banned products will be fined. On the other hand, a source said that the government is also planning to impose other rules on the use of plastics in view of the environment. At the same time, the government will also focus on plastic recycling.
