New Delhi: Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) head in India Ijaz  Ahmad was in a bid to make North Bengal a terror outfit's fortress. Ijaz was recently detained by the Special Task Force (STF) of The Kolkata Police. Investigations have revealed that Ijaz visited North Bengal several times in the past year.

Ijaz was appointed as its 'Amir' (Chief) in India by a banned terrorist organization. Ijaz was working to empower the Dust modules in Murshidabad district. The investigators were told by Ijaz about his nefarious intentions to build another new module in North Dinajpur district. The recruitment work was also started. Ijaz was also looking for a suitable person to handle the activities of the terror outfit in West Bengal.

In West Bengal, 30-year-old Ijaz, a resident of Parui in Birbhum district, was detained by the Kolkata Police STF on Tuesday. Ijaz replaced Kausar, the top commander of JMB in India, after joining the terrorist organization in 2008. Kausar was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Khagragar blast case.
