Traffic rules changed, sweets distributed to people without helmets in Manipur

Imphal: The new motor vehicle law has come into force across the country from 1 September. Following the amendment in the Motor Vehicle Act, violating traffic rules will now attract a penalty of up to 10 times more. After its implementation in many parts of the country, intensive checking campaign was carried out. Many were seen breaking traffic rules, which the police fined.

On the other hand, Churachandpur traffic police of Manipur were seen distributing sweets and toffees instead of imposing fines on those riding helmet bikes. Giving information, SP Amrita Sinha said that when we conducted this campaign to check the drivers without helmets, many people did not like it. Then we decided to give sweets and toffee to such drivers.

He told that we distributed sweets and chocolates to them and lovingly explained them to follow the rules of traffic. He said that after doing so many people promised to follow the traffic rules further. Let me tell you that after the passage in both the houses of Parliament, the Motor Vehicle Act has been implemented across the country. However, the state governments of Rajasthan and West Bengal have not implemented it in their state.
