PM Modi greets Ar. Balkrishna Doshi for winning Royal Gold Medal 2022

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi for winning the Royal Gold Medal 2022 on Friday. On December 9, Doshi was awarded the highest architectural honors in the world.

The Prime Minister tweeted, "Spoke to the eminent architect Shri Balkrishna Doshi Ji and congratulated him on being awarded the Royal Gold Medal 2022." The Prime Minister praised Doshi's contributions to the realm of architecture as "monumental." "His creations are admired around the world for their inventiveness, individuality, and diversity," he said.

The award was announced on Thursday by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), saying that with a 70-year career and more than 100 built projects, 94-year-old Doshi has influenced the track of architecture in India and its adjacent regions through both his practice and his teaching.

Balkrishna Doshi was born in Pune in 1927 to a family of furniture makers. He studied architecture at the JJ School of Architecture in Bombay before working for four years as a Senior Designer with Le Corbusier in Paris (1951-54) and four more years in India as a project supervisor in Ahmedabad. As an associate, he assisted Louis Kahn in the construction of the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad, and the two worked together for nearly a decade.
