Presidential poll Breaking News: Murmu leading against Yashwant Sinha

NEW DELHI:   Draupadi Murmu is clearly ahead of Yashwant Sinha after the first round of presidential election counting on Thursday.

Out of the 748 legitimate votes cast, 540 were in favour of Murmu and 208 were in favour of Yashwant Sinha. There are 5,23,600 total valid votes.

At Parliament House in New Delhi, the counting of ballots for the presidential election began on Thursday, and it will be expected to be concluded by evening.

Draupadi Murmu of the ruling  National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Yashwant Sinha, who is supported by the opposition, are set against one another in the election, with the odds obviously favouring Murmu.

Murmu will hold the country's top constitutional position for the first time as a tribal woman if she is elected.
