Rahul Gandhi sent a letter to the collector on Wednesday urging the construction of a bridge for more than 150 residents of the Natara tribal colony. Speaking to the press, Kelu said, "With respect to Rahul Gandhi, I would like to tell him that he should ensure the full support of the Central Government for the overall development of Wayanad."

Kelu further said, "Gandhi should leave things like bridge to MLA, who have been working hard for this bridge for the last two years. Since Wayanad became the constituency in 2009, only Congress MPs have been elected from this seat. My humble request to Rahul Gandhi is to ask his party colleagues what they were doing to build the bridge."
