Mumbai: In Maharashtra, the ruckus continues over the removal of loudspeakers from mosques. After the ultimatum of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray, MNS workers have also played Hanuman Chalisa in front of some mosques to protest against the azaan on loudspeakers. At the same time, the police have arrested 250 MNS workers for reciting or trying to recite Hanuman Chalisa. In the midst of all this, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar called a meeting of the Mahavikas Aghadi government.

Sharad Pawar has called this meeting only over the loudspeaker controversy. In this meeting, there was a churn regarding the law and security system of the state. Many big leaders including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Balasaheb Thorat attended the meeting. Significantly, Raj Thackeray had given an ultimatum to the Uddhav government to remove loudspeakers from all mosques by May 4. He had said that MNS workers would recite Hanuman Chalisa at all those places where there would be azaan from loudspeakers.

After this announcement made by Raj Thackeray, Maharashtra Police became alert. The police went to the mosques and checked the sound of loudspeakers. Loudspeakers were not used in many mosques. At the same time, MNS workers also recited Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers at places where azaan was given on loudspeakers in the mosque. The police have also arrested 250 MNS workers so far.
