Ghaziabad: Former MP of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, the country's largest state and senior Congress leader, Surendra Prakash Goel died on Friday. After the COVID-19 infection, he was admitted to Gangaram Hospital in Delhi for the last fifteen days. His death has been confirmed by his son Sushant Goel. As soon as information of the demise is received, a wave of mourning has run among the Congress leaders. According to the Health Department, on July 20, the former MP's COVID-19 test was conducted, the infection was confirmed. He was initially treated in home-isolation only. On August 2, he was admitted to Gangaram Hospital in Delhi on the request of Atul Garg, city legislator and minister of state for health. Subsequently, 75-year-old Surendra Prakash Goyal died on Friday morning. This is the second major loss to the Congress after the death of Rajiv Tyagi. He was elected as a member of the Municipality Ghaziabad in 1972 for the first time while doing the politics of the Congress. He became the chairman of the municipality in 1973 and again in 1989. MLA was elected in the district in 2002. In 2004, for the first time, he was elected MP from the Congress. He has the credit of getting many development works done for the district while the Congress is at the center. Leaders of every party in the district used to honor him by calling him as uncle. Many times the Congress was very hostile about the ticket itself, but in one stroke, he used to go to enroll with the ticket. Nobody was able to guess his contact with the Congress top leaders till the last moment. Many times Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said from the stage that where is uncle. After his death, the Congress has suffered a major setback.
