Tamil Nadu: Railway booking clerk and his wife arrested for staging a robbery

CHENNAI: Railway Police detained a Southern Railway ticket clerk working at the Tiruvanmiyur MRTS railway station in Chennai on Tuesday for stealing money and faking a robbery.

When a passenger arrived at the Tiruvanmiyur MRTS train station's ticketing counter at 4 a.m. on Monday, there was no one present and the lights were turned on. The passenger walked to the back of the room and discovered it open, with Teekaram Meena, the booking clerk, lying inside with his wrists and ankles tied and mouth gagged.

The booking clerk informed them that a three-member gang barged into the room at around 3.30 a.m. while he was at the desk and looted the money after hitting him and tying him down at knifepoint after the passenger raised an alarm.

Teekaram spilt the beans after police interrogated him and found his account to be far from accurate. He had borrowed Rs 2.5 lakh from friends and coworkers after losing money in online betting games, which he was addicted to.
