Shahdol: There is a wave of conversions going on across the country at this time, whether it is Christian conversion or Islamic, hindus are the target. Madhya Pradesh, which is called the heart of India, is no exception. The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has taken cognizance of the matter after a large number of tribals were converted to Islam in Shahdol district of the state. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes will now probe the conversion of tribal society by missionaries. The Commission has issued a notice to the Shahdol Superintendent of Police (SP) regarding this. The commission has sought information related to the conversion of tribals. Not only this, the Scheduled Castes Commission has also warned of issuing summons to the SP if he does not give information. Cases of conversion of tribals were reported in more than 70 villages of Shahdol. The matter first came to light when an attempt was being made to gather tribals at the house of Sidhiha Singh Gond at Dongri Tola under Jaitpur police station area of Shahdol district and get them converted to mass conversion. As soon as the news was received, social worker Sunaina Singh Sayyam, who has been fighting against conversion for the last 10 years, reached the spot and caught 8 people including alleged pastor Shankar who was converting and handed them over to the police. At the same time, now the tribal society has resolved to take to the field against religious conversion on its own and the notice sent by NCST to the SP is also clearly showing their strong stance, which is commendable.
