Srinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called a high-level meeting today to review the preparations and security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra to be held in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 1 and continue till August 31. According to information received from sources, like every year, there is a possibility of a terrorist attack on the yatra this year too.
The cave shrine of Amarnath is located at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the south Kashmir Himalayas. Last year, 3.45 lakh people had visited the shrine. This year, the figure is expected to go up to 5 lakh. Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to hold a meeting with top officials of the central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to review the preparations for the Amarnath Yatra, sources said. According to sources, Amit Shah will also take stock of the ongoing plans to ensure foolproof preparations for the yatra. Other people related to the pilgrimage are also expected to attend the meeting.
According to sources, there have been intelligence inputs that Pakistan-based terror outfits may try to disrupt the pilgrimage. Adequate security forces will be deployed to thwart their nefarious designs.
