New Delhi: The country's eminent lawyer and former Law Minister Ram Jethmalani has died on Sunday at his residence in Delhi. He was 95 and was ill for a long time. He served as the Law Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1996. He also fought many high profile lawsuits. He came to India from Karachi with a penny in his pocket, after which he earned a name in advocacy by fighting big cases here. Let's know Ram Jethmalani's career in 10 points: -

1. Ram Jethmalani was born on September 14, 1923 in Shikarpur (now Pakistan) of the then Bombay Presidency.

2. Ram Jethmalani received LLB degree at the age of 17. He became a lawyer at the age of 18 in a special position. While the minimum age to become a lawyer was 21 years. He later pursued a master's degree in law at Bombay University.

3. Ram Jethmalani started his advocacy and professorship in Sindh province before the partition of the country. He started a law firm in Karachi with his friend AK Brohi. Riots erupted in Karachi after the partition of the country in February 1948. In such a situation, he came to India following the advice of Brohi. At that time, he came to India with just one Paisa in his pocket. On the basis of this money, Jethmalani lived in a refugee camp here for a few days.

4. Jethmalani fought his first case at the age of 17 in a Sindh court. He challenged the minimum age of becoming a lawyer. In India, he fought the first lawsuit against the Bombay Refugee Act. He fought this case in Bombay High Court.

5. In 1954 he became a part-time professor at Government Law College, Mumbai. He also held the post of Chairman of Bar Council of India for a total of four times.

6. In the Lok Sabha elections in 1977 and 1980, he reached the Lok Sabha by winning the election from Mumbai North-West seat on Janata Party and BJP tickets. In 1985, he was defeated by Sunil Dutt of Congress here.

7. He became a Rajya Sabha MP in 1988. In 1996, he was made Union Law Minister in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 1999, he again became Law Minister. In 2004, he contested Lok Sabha election from Lucknow against Atal Bihari Vajpayee as an independent candidate. But he had to face defeat.

8. On 7 May 2010, he was made the Chairman of the Supreme Court Bar Association. Ram Jethmalani was the highest paid lawyer in the apex court.

9. Some of the major lawsuits fought by Jethmalani include the defense of LK Advani in the Hawala case, the defense of Manu Sharma in the Jessica Lal murder case, the defense of Indira Gandhi's murder accused, the defense of Rajiv Gandhi's murder accused, the Sohrabuddin fake. The cases involving the defense of Amit Shah in the encounter case, the defense of Kanimozhi in the 2G spectrum case, the defense of Amit Jogi in the Jaggi murder case.

10. Jethmalani also fought a case on behalf of Asaram Bapu in the Jodhpur sexual exploitation case. In the CPI MLA Krishna Desai murder case, Shiv Sena fought the defense case and Arun Jaitley defended the AAP supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in the defamation case.
