Kerala alert over NIPAH virus! Symptoms found in 11 people, 251 isolated

Kochi: Kerala, facing the most nocturnal wave of coronavirus, faces another challenge. A 12-year-old boy has died in Kozhikode here after being infected with the Nipah virus. Now some others in the district have been diagnosed with the virus, after which the administration has started taking different steps.

About 11 people in the Kozhikode area alone have been diagnosed with the Nipah virus. According to Kerala Health Minister Veena George, a total of 8 high-risk contacts have been sent to a Pune lab for samples. It is a matter of relief that samples of the child's father, the health workers who came in contact, have come negative. Nipah virus is being detected by conducting sample testing at Kozhikode Medical College in Kerala. About 48 high-risk contacts have had to be admitted to the hospital. Of these, 31 are from Kozhikode, while the rest are from Wayanad, Mallapuram, and Pallakad.

The child who died had about 251 people on the contact list were immediately isolated. Of these, 129 are health workers. While the medical team is constantly keeping an eye on the people, the animal husbandry team is also looking at the surrounding trees, localities. Samples are being collected from where bats are expected to arrive here.
