Bogota: Protests after the death of a man in police custody in Colombia killed 13 people and injured more than 400 people in two days. Authorities have given information in this regard on Friday. The official said that protests started in Bogota after the death of a man named Javier Ordóñez. However, there have been small protests on the second night.
There was a violent clash with the police late on Thursday night. The Ministry of Defense has confirmed the deaths of 13 people and stated that 209 civilians are injured and 194 officers have been injured. Dozens of city buses were damaged during the scuffle, out of which 13 have been set ablaze. The walls of the police stations have also been damaged during the unrest. After the violence erupted in the city, Defense Minister Carlos Taruzillo Holmes apologized on behalf of the police for taking any illegal steps during the custody of Ordoñez early Wednesday.
He has said that disciplinary hearings have been ordered in this regard to ascertain whether the officers have committed murder and misused the post. Seven officials have been suspended so far as the investigation progresses.
