New Delhi: H1N1 (swine flu) cases are on the rise in the national capital amid rising coronavirus cases. In the last 15 days, more than 15 cases have been registered in the city. Doctors and health experts say the symptoms of H1N1 are similar to those of the coronavirus and most symptomatic people are not being tested for H1N1. The actual number of infections may be higher than reported.
According to the health department data, 15 new cases of H1N1 have been reported in Delhi in the last 15 days. Swine flu is a human respiratory infection caused by an influenza strain that started in pigs. Dr Rajesh Chawla, the senior consultant at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, has said that at least two to three patients are getting severe H1N1 infection every day and two such patients are currently on ESMO. ESMO is a life support system, which provides heart and respiratory support for a considerable period of time to people whose hearts and lungs are severely affected.
Chawla further said that, if your corona test comes negative, then you should do an H1N1 test because there is a very high chance that you are infected with this virus. Since the symptoms of both are similar and H1N1 can be easily understood as corona or seasonal flu. People are not getting tested, that's why we don't know the actual figure. H1N1 is not as contagious as the corona, it shows severe symptoms in the elderly, people with low immunity and other diseases.
