New Delhi: The Indian Railways will invite bids in the coming two months for the redevelopment of a total of 16 railway stations, including Delhi's Anand Vihar terminal, under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. According to sources, Tambaram, Vijayawada, Dadar, Kalyan, Thane, Andheri, Coimbatore Junction, Pune, Bengaluru City, Vadodara, Bhopal, Chennai Central, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Awadi railway stations will also be redeveloped.

According to the Indian Railways' plan, the redevelopment of all these railway stations can be bid in this financial year. These railway stations will be upgraded to ensure better infrastructure and accessibility for passengers. According to sources, various monetisation models are being examined to encourage the private sector.

In the first phase, there is a plan to redevelop 199 stations with a daily strength of 50 lakh. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier this month said the design of the redeveloped stations will also provide space for retail sales, cafeterias and recreational facilities. Vaishnaw had said that tenders have been floated for 47 stations and work is on at 32 stations. So that passengers can be given the benefit of facilities as soon as possible.
