The head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri, said that the 1983 World Cup title victory under Kapil Dev laid the foundation of cricket in the country and changed the face of the game forever. Shastri tweeted, "On 25 June 1983, we were confident and we became world champions. This victory changed the face of cricket in India." India won their first Cricket World Cup title by defeating the West Indies at Lord's Cricket Ground. Today it has been 37 years since India's victory in the tournament. Sunil Gavaskar, K.K. Srikanth, Mohinder Amarnath, Yashpal Sharma, SM Patil, Kapil Dev (Captain), Kirti Azad, Roger Binny, Madan Lal, Syed Kirmani and Balwinder Sandhu.

In the final match, the West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Indian team was reduced to 183 runs. For the West Indies, Andy Roberts took three wickets, Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding and Larry Gomes took two wickets each. For India, Srikanth scored the highest 38 runs, apart from him no other batsman could go beyond the score of 30 runs. The West Indies, who came to bat on the field with the hope of winning the World Cup for the third time, had a poor start, and fast bowler Balwinder Sandhu bowled the Greenies for one run. But the road was still very difficult for India. After the Greenies, Madan Lal also raised the hopes for India by disposing of Desmond Haynes and Vivian Richards cheaply. After which the West Indies started losing wickets in short intervals and captain Clive Lloyd also returned to the pavilion after being dismissed by Roger Binny.

After Lloyd's dismissal, the West Indies team could not last long and the entire team was all out on the score of 140 runs. With this, India did what no one had ever imagined. As soon as India became the world champion, his name began to be taken with big teams like West Indies, Australia and New Zealand and with this, Kapil Dev's army gave India a new identity in cricket. However, 28 years later, in 2011, under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India defeated Sri Lanka once again to become world champions. With this, India became the third country after the West Indies and Australia to win the World Cup more than once.
