Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that at least two persons were killed and five more were trapped beneath debris due to a landslide in Pithoragarh district on Monday. For the past four to five days, the Pithoragarh district has been flooded by rain, resulting in many landslides. According to media reports, a 23-year-old lady went missing last week in Joshi village in Pithoragarh's Dharchula sub-division.

On Saturday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the Uttarakhand districts of Nainital, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, predicting heavy rainfall on August 29-30. He surveyed the disaster-affected areas of Devprayag, Totaghati, Tindhara, Kaudiyala, Rishikesh, Ranipokhari, Narendranagar, Fakot and Chamba of Garhwal division.
