Delhi hospitals are constantly facing oxygen problems. According to media reports, at least 20 covid patients lost their lives due to lack of oxygen at Jaipur Golden Hospital in Delhi. The patients were undergoing treatment at the hospital for a few days. Officials at Jaipur Golden Hospital said the lives of another 200 people were at risk as they had only half an hour of supply. "We lost 20 people last night (Friday) due to lack of oxygen," said DK Baluja, medical director of the hospital. The oxygen supply is now going to last only half an hour.

More than 200 lives are at stake. Baluja said 80 out of 200 patients are on oxygen support while 35 are in ICU. Earlier in the day, 25 patients were reported dead at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi due to lack of oxygen. However, the hospital later denied the news. Delhi hospitals are facing an acute shortage of oxygen due to steep rise in covid cases in the country. Major hospitals in the capital have been facing a shortage of oxygen for the past few days. Meanwhile, 14 covid patients admitted to a hospital in Virar in Palghar district of Maharashtra lost their lives in a fire in the medical facility on Friday.

Earlier this week, the Centre had announced that Indian Railways would run special trains to supply oxygen to states and Union Territories as many of them are facing shortages. Oxygen Express has already made its first stoppage at Nagpur in Maharashtra on Friday evening. The Centre has also decided to restrict the supply of oxygen for industrial purposes to divert stocks for medical use. According to the report, the daily requirement of medical oxygen in India is currently double the industrial usage - 4,600 Metric Tonnes.
