Istanbul: At least 25 people have died and dozens of workers are still trapped in a coal mine explosion in Turkey on Friday (October 14). According to officials, more than 110 people were working in the mine when the explosion took place. Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said it was not yet clear how many people were trapped in the explosion at the government-owned Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises mine. At the same time, 17 injured people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Earlier, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said 49 people were working 300 meters and 350 meters (985 to 1,148 feet) below the ground at the time of the blast. He had described it as a risky area. He said that some people trapped there have been rescued, while some people are still trapped there. Turkey's Energy Minister Fatih Donmez said initial indications suggested the explosion was caused by firedamp, which is methane gas and caused the mine to explode. He said there was no fire inside the mine and the ventilation inside was working properly. The interior of the mine has partially collapsed.

Amasara Mayor Recai Cakir said that many of those who survived had serious injuries. In this incident, a mine worker managed to escape. He has told that 'There was dust and smoke and we don't know what really happened.' Relief and rescue personnel had started digging to reach the people trapped in the night itself to rescue them, this mine is located in Amasara, a coastal area of ​​the Black Sea.
