Mumbai: A 25-year-old Indian Navy soldier has committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at the port of Mumbai. A naval official has said that the incident took place on a naval warship on Saturday afternoon and the Navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The officer said that 'The sailor went to a room on the ship and shot himself. He died on the spot.'
The official has informed that the exact reason behind the suicide is not yet known. The police suspect that the sailor may have taken this step because of some domestic issue. He said that a case of accidental death has been registered. When contacted, a Navy spokesperson said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
It is noteworthy that a 22-year-old Navy employee went missing on Thursday from Uran, who was working as a cook at INS Abhimanyu Base Camp in the neighbouring Raigad district. The employee, identified as Vishal Maheshkumar, had left his home in Uran for a swim on the morning of November 3, the police official said. When Vishal did not return home, his parents reached the Uran police station and lodged an FIR about his disappearance.
