New Delhi: A few days ago, the Supreme Court in its decision had decided to continue the 10 per cent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). At that time Congress had welcomed this decision. Congress leaders also gave credit for this to themselves. The same Congress has now come out against EWS reservation in the name of reviewing this decision.

Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram has welcomed the party's new stand on EWS. Regarding this, he tweeted, 'I welcome the statement of AICC that the party will review the decision of the Supreme Court on EWS reservation. The exclusion of SC, ST and OBC from the new reservation has caused widespread concern among the people.' Arguing about this, Chidambaram further said, 'The reason is that according to the Singho Commission, SC, ST and OBC constitute 82 per cent of the population below the poverty line. Poor is a class. Can the law exclude the 82 per cent poor? This is a question which should be impartially investigated.'

In fact, the non-BJP-ruled states of the South have opposed this decision of the Supreme Court. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin called an all-party meeting in the capital, in which the 103rd Constitutional Amendment related to EWS reservation was rejected. Congress also participated in this meeting.
