Jaipur: Rajasthan may have a tough day for bus commuters today. In fact, private bus operators have announced not to run buses in the state today. The decision is said to have stopped the wheels of 35,000 buses in the state. The Private Bus Operators Association has threatened to impose indefinite wheel jams across the state if the government does not withdraw the tax levied during the corona period.

Private bus operators allege that the government had imposed a lockdown due to corona and there was a ban on transportation of private buses. Even then, the government is taking tax during that time. Several rounds of talks were held with the government, but the government is not willing to give up its revenue, while bus drivers are going through a starving death. Bus operators demand that private buses be allowed to increase fares. Operators say diesel has become costlier by Rs 29 per liter in the last 1 year. Private bus operators have threatened that buses coming from other states will also not be allowed to replenish during chakka jams.

Transport Minister Pratap Singh Khachariawas said the government has waived off two months of tax in sympathy for their demands. But private bus operators are demanding a waiver of one year's tax. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government says that arrangements have been made to ensure that people do not face problems. However, the government has appealed that those who can postpone their journey should postpone the journey.
