36 National Disaster Response Force deployed to deal with 'Vayu'

Ahmedabad: Cyclone Vayu picking in the Arabian Sea may hit Gujarat coast on Thursday. On Wednesday, the meteorological department said the Cyclone's impact would hit winds of up to 175 km per hour. Its impact issued heavy rain warning in nine coastal districts of North Gujarat. The tourists have been advised to stay away from the coastal areas of Dwarka, Somnath, Sasan, and Kutch.

As per the information received from the sources, 36 teams of National Disaster Response Force have been deployed. According to IMD, the air Cyclone Porbandar, Mahuva and Daman Diu region are moving towards the northern outskirts of Gujarat. There may be heavy rains in Junagarh, Amreli, GIR, Somnath, Diu, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka and Bhavnagar. Meanwhile, Mumbai meteorological department in-charge, Bishwambhar Singh has said that the cyclone will not have much effect in Mumbai. However, there may be light rain with winds.

According to information, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the people living in coastal areas have been instructed to evacuate to safer places. The administration is in touch with the Odisha government to get to know the ways to minimize damage like hurricane Fanny. All employees have been asked to cancel the holiday and return to duty. All schools, colleges and Anganwadi centers in coastal areas will be laid off on June 13 and 14.
