The closing ceremony of the 38th edition of National Games concluded on Friday, 14th November 2025. The event was graced by Home Minister Amit Shah as the guest of honor, who was welcomed by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami with a commemorative memento, a shawl and a bouquet of flowers. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was also present at the event.
The gathering was held at the Indira Gandhi International Sports Complex in Uttarakhand with a capacity of 25,000 people. The ceremony featured a ‘Games recap’ where the winning moments from the start to end, at seven venues from Dehradun on January 28 were featured.
National Games was nothing less than a sporting extravaganza with the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) topping the chart with 121 medals that includes 68 gold, 26 silver and 27 bronze. Nine medals from the total came on final day of the tournament, February 13th, that includes three gold medals too. Earlier, they had won four successive titles in 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2022.
Maharashtra won the highest number of medals, more than State Services with 198 medals. It clinched 54 gold, 71 silver and 73 bronze. The lesser number of gold medals led it finish at the second spot. Maharashtra last won the title in 2023. Haryana had a tally of 153 medals, with 48 gold, 47 silver and 58 bronze finishing third. The fourth spot was occupied by Madhya Pradesh with a tally of 82 medals- 34 gold, 26 silver and 22 bronze. Karnataka too had 34 gold medals, but the overall tally was behind Madhya Pradesh at 80.
The host state Uttarakhand ended up at seventh spot, with a total 103 medals that includes 24 gold, 35 silver and 44 bronze.
Besides Amit Shah and Mansukh Mandaviya, several other dignitaries were present at the closing ceremony of National Games. The nest in line to host, Meghalaya Chief Minister Kongkal Sangma, Uttarakhand Sports Minister Rekha Arya, Indian Olympic Association’s President Former Athlete PT Usha, boxing champion MC Mary Kom and Olympic medalist shooter Gagan Narang among others.
In his address, Mansukh Mandaviya said, “Uttarakhand has conveyed to the country that it is not just Devbhoomi but also a Khelbhoomi. The state ensured that no athlete faced any difficulty during the games. It is the beginning of India becoming sports hub. It is the beginning of India coming inside the top 10 Olympic performers by 2036. The country now has a sports ecosystem. It is moving forward in every aspect, including sports.”
The multi-sport event inspired by the Olympics featured athletes from 28 states, eight Union territories and Services Sports Control Board who competed in 34 different categories of sports. Some of the top athletes who participated at the event were Lovlina Borgohain, Swapnil Khusale, Sarabjot Singh and Vijay Kumar.
