HYDERABAD: A booth level pulse polio immunization drive, which includes 38,31,907 children aged five years, was organised in Telangana on Sunday. 8,589 ANMs, 27,040 ASHA workers and 35,353 Anganwadi workers participated in the immunity drive. For this purpose, over 23,331 booths have been set up and 877 mobile teams have been set up.

The first round of vaccimeters will be immunized by state health authorities on February 1 and 2 and another round of immunity in Hyderabad on February 4. Keeping in mind the city's huge population.

Special attention has been paid to vaccinate children under high risk categories including beggars, nomadic tribes, migrant workers, brick kiln workers, new colonies in the suburbs, fishermen and tribal communities.

2 month old baby dies taking polio vaccine

A two-month-old baby died on Sunday as part of the Pulse Polio Drive. The child was vaccinated at the Anganwadi centre in Sampur village near Dundigal in Nagapattinam. The child's health condition deteriorated after the vaccination, and the parents took the baby to a hospital in Miyapur. However, the baby died while going to the hospital. When contacted by the health department officials, he said that the vaccination can only be confirmed after postmortem. They also claim that death is rare due to polio vaccination.
