Chennai: A fire broke out at a pesticide factory in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu today. 4 people have been killed and 15 others are said to be injured in the incident. All the injured have been admitted to a government hospital for treatment. Three men and a woman were among the dead. According to sources, the fire broke out around 7.45 am this morning. State minister CV Ganesan says strict action will be taken against factories and companies which do not take steps to control accidents.
According to media reports, the deceased were identified as Rajkumar, Ganapati and Savita. The fourth deceased is yet to be identified. The injured have been referred to Cuddalore Government General Hospital. About 20 workers working in the unit were reportedly trapped inside. The fire brigade team rushed to the spot after receiving information and launched a rescue operation to control the fire. People were terrified by the fire incident. People came out of their houses after seeing smoke coming out.
A senior Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TMPCB) official said an inquiry has been initiated. They will be able to ascertain the exact cause of the blast after proper investigation. It is being reported that the fire broke out after the blast. The blast was reportedly so strong that people in the area panicked.
