40 decade old Air Force's Jaguar crashes in  Kutch, Gujarat

NEW DELHI: An Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jet crashed in Mundra district of Kutch in Gujarat on Monday, as reported by ANI.

The IAF Jaguar which was associated with the Jamnagar air base crashed on the outer edge of Beraja village. The pilot, Air Commodore Sanjay Chauhan, died in the crash, a defense spokesperson reported TOI. Five cows grazing in the field where the aircraft crashed were also lost their lives.

"Today morning a Jaguar aircraft on a routine training mission from Jamnagar crashed around 10:30 hours. The pilot Air Cmde Sanjay Chauhan sustained fatal injuries during the crash. Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate cause of the accident," told  Lt Col Manish Ojha as quoted by TOI.

Court of investigation into the crash has been ordered by the air headquarters to look into the cause of the accident, people familiar with the matter reported.

Worth mention here The Jaguar is a twin-engine, ground attack aircraft. It can penetrate deep behind enemy lines on bombing runs with maximum speed of 1,350 kmph or 1.3 times the speed of sound. The bomber has two 30 mm guns and can carry 4,750 kg of artillery. However, the aircraft is aging since it was introduced into the Indian Air Force in 1979 and it was almost four decades year old.
