Bangalore: The controversy over the hijab in Karnataka has once again begun to gain momentum. This time, 58 students of a school have been suspended. According to information, the incident took place in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka. Here, 58 students of Karnataka Public School had protested in the classroom demanding that they wear the hijab.
The students of Karnataka Public School were demanding to wear hijab in the class. They performed about it. The students said we would die, but we would not give up the hijab. A case has been registered against other protesters for violating prohibitory orders. The matter is also being heard regularly in the Karnataka High Court. Therefore, the court has banned the wearing of religious robes like hijab, burqa, saffron scarf etc. till the final decision is taken.
On this, Major P Manivannan, secretary, Minority Welfare, Haj and Wakf Department, said that the interim order of the full bench of the High Court is also applicable to residential schools run under the Minority Welfare Department. The Karnataka Minority Department issued a circular saying, "We urge the state government and all its stakeholders to reopen educational institutions and allow students to return to classes at the earliest." Further orders while considering all the petitions will not be allowed to wear saffron scarfs, hijabs, religious flags or religious symbols in any educational institution.
