High magnitude earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale jolted the Philippines' Surigao Del Sur province on Monday, official authorities confirmed. The Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) has informed that the offshore earthquake, which struck at 6.37 a.m, hit at a depth of 33 km, 29 km southeast of the town of San Agustin.

The tectonic in origin quake will trigger aftershocks and that damages are expected. No immediate reports of any damages or injuries found. The location along the Pacific "Ring of Fire" makes the country more vulnerable to the seismic activity. Last week, Philippines was hit bad by the Typhoon Vamco that killed 67 people and 22 missing.

Vamco, the 21st cyclone to hit the Philippines this year, tore late on Wednesday and caused the worst flooding in years in parts of the capital city. Vamco followed Super Typhoon Goni, the world's most powerful storm this year, that brought heavy rain to southern Luzon provinces and killed lot of people just a few days back.
