New Delhi: The Modi government at the Centre has withdrawn three new agricultural laws after nearly 14 months. Farmers had been agitating against it for nearly a year. While hundreds of farmers have died in this one-year movement, the economy has lost billions of rupees. It may be recalled that due to the farmer's agitation, protest, traffic jam, stopping railways were held several times. This hampered the movement of goods and caused a lot of damage to many sectors of the economy.
A few months ago, Industry Chamber ASSOCHAM issued an estimate that the ongoing farmers' agitation against the agriculture law was causing a daily loss of about Rs 3,500 crore, especially to states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Assocham said that all these states are in an interlinked area and are suffering the most. This is because the economy of these states is mainly based on sectors like farming, food processing, cotton, farm machinery, tourism, hospitality, transport. Thus, it can be assumed that the farmers' movement has cost the country's economy billions of rupees in the entire year.
There has been a huge loss of life and property during the farmer's movement. According to several estimates, hundreds of farmers died during the farmers' movement. In some road accidents, some died of illness, while others even committed suicide. The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) claimed in September 2021 that 605 farmers had lost their lives during the farmers' movement. The question now arises whether the farmers ' movement has been resolved after PM Modi withdrew the law.
