Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has termed the Uniform Civil Code as the need of the country. The high court has asked the Modi government at the Centre to consider its serious implementation. Article 44 of the Constitution gives the right to make a law for all the citizens living in India at the right time. No matter what religion or caste they belong to.

The Constitution seeks to introduce a single law for every religion on marriage, divorce, and sharing of real estate in the Uniform Civil Code. Hearing 17 petitions related to inter-religious marriage, a bench of Justice Sunit Kumar in the Allahabad High Court said that the issue of uniform civil code is constitutional but whenever it is raised in the public domain, there is a political reversal. The court said the law is the need of the country and must be brought in. The court further said, 'It cannot be left to be implemented only voluntarily. High Court Justice Sunit Kumar said the Uniform Civil Code is now the need of the hour''.

It may be mentioned that a couple of different religions had filed a petition in the High Court seeking their safety in marriage registration. During the hearing, Justice Sunit Kumar said that the need of the hour is for Parliament to come up with a "single-family code".
